Where exactly is 'behind the Vatican' btw?

Gee - I am practically quintilingual these days (I am not sure what the kiwis call the liquor store, but I think it's probably 'dairy'), so I can slip gracefully back into calling it 'the offy' when I next go home. I notice that your spellings (Caandianized, license) are North American though, so let us take the entire sawmill out of our own eye before worrying about the speck in someone else's, shall we?Amberhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17278161038981079553noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3544350331773070065.post-1316163376716328942008-08-03T20:56:00.000-04:002008-08-03T20:56:00.000-04:00Great photo! I believed it without the evidence, but this makes the story even better.

Not to be pedantic (no, go ahead and give it a try...) but your use of 'Liquor Store' is perfectly correct back here in Saskatchewan where I believe an 'Off License' is just a small after hours version attached to a bar. In Ontario you have to buy your bottles at the 'LCBO' ('Liquor Control Board of Ontario' emphasis on the 'Control'). If they're run the way they were when I lived there you have to fill out a form and submit it to a dour civil servant standing behind a counter in order to make an alcohol purchase. This makes the experience feel about as guilt-ridden and joyless as buying condoms behind the Vatican. Yet in Quebec, beer and wine can be found next to the milk and bread at your local corner store.

Speaking of irony, my husband's Montreal Hebrew school was on a street called Notre Dame de Grace.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04714705136045067173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3544350331773070065.post-23223956641542550462008-08-02T23:39:00.000-04:002008-08-02T23:39:00.000-04:00Sorry, but you said "liquor store" - you're all Ca...Sorry, but you said "liquor store" - you're all Canadianized! Is it permanent or when you go back to the UK do you stll use the correct term "Off-License"?

GAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3544350331773070065.post-76311248409313989982008-07-27T19:13:00.000-04:002008-07-27T19:13:00.000-04:00That's awesome!
